Fine Vintage Port Wine
Fine Port | The Port Society

Welcome to all lovers of Fine Port!

It gives us great pleasure to introduce to you The Port Society Ltd.

Our main aim is dedicated to bringing the finest Port Wines to the widest audience on a ‘not for profit’ basis, and the following explains our reasoning behind this:

Why form a society?

As many of you may know, the UK was the original market for Port Wine, and to this day, quality expectations remain high.  We have seen over recent years that the availability of premium Port has declined and this may be due to the increasing dominance of the major supermarkets in wine retailing.

We feel that it is time to address this issue.  By the formation of The Port Society, we believe we can make available to UK consumers some exciting premium wines from formerly little-known shippers, as well as the popular, well-known brands.

We also want to widen people’s knowledge of Port by creating opportunities to attend informal ‘Port Discovery’ events to be held at venues all over the UK. There are nine classifications of port; ruby, tawny, crusted, white, colheita, vintage, vintage character, late bottled vintage (LBV) and single quinta. Come to one of our events and taste, discuss and enjoy all aspects of this very diverse Douro wine with fine food and good company.

Let us assure anyone attending such an event that there is nothing but fun to be had in tasting the various wines, and maybe being brave enough to attempt a wild guess at what they might be… believe us; we all started at that point and we still get it spectacularly wrong… well, sometimes.

To the producers:

Let us showcase your products, especially if your UK market penetration is poor.  We are not overly concerned about packaging and presentation – the content of the bottle is our prime concern.  To that end, we are generally in favour of minimal filtration.  Contact us when you have remnant stocks to dispose of, or a new product to offer.

We are committed to dealing with the trade on a fair and impartial basis.  Our ‘not for profit’ corporate status enables us to have a lower trading margin than other merchants, and where possible we wish to deal without the use of intermediate agents, so that both you the producer, and the consumer, may enjoy fair prices.
